The F1 Austrian Grand Prix gets a free Apple TV stream in the U.S. Apple says viewers need no subscription for the June 28 race. So Formula 1 fans can test Apple’s race coverage without paying first.

Apple TV and F1 announced the free race in an official Instagram post. The post says, “The next race is free.” It also calls Apple TV the U.S. home of F1. Meanwhile, Formula1.com’s Austrian Grand Prix page confirms the Spielberg race date.

When the F1 Austrian Grand Prix stream starts

Practice 1 starts Friday, June 26 at 7:30AM ET. Practice 2 follows at 11AM ET. Qualifying starts Saturday, June 27 at 10AM ET. Then the race starts Sunday, June 28 at 9AM ET.

Apple limits the free stream to U.S. viewers. That detail matters. F1 rights still change by country. Therefore, fans outside the U.S. should check their local broadcaster, F1 TV access, or pay-TV plan.

For U.S. viewers, Apple removes the main barrier for one weekend. First, fans can open the Apple TV app. Next, they can compare the broadcast with their usual race setup. Finally, they can decide if Apple’s version fits their routine.

The move also fits Apple’s wider sports push. Tech My Money recently covered an Apple TV MLS match shot entirely on iPhone. Apple also expanded Apple Sports to more markets. Now F1 gives Apple another way to pull casual fans into its app.

Still, the free stream only opens the door. The real test comes later. Apple has to make the race easy to find. It also has to make the coverage feel worth keeping after the Austrian Grand Prix ends.
