Gemini 3.5 Flash is Google’s new workhorse model for agentic coding and fast multi-step AI tasks. In an official Gemini 3.5 post, Google calls Flash the first release in the 3.5 family.
The model now reaches the Gemini app, AI Mode in Search, Google Antigravity, the Gemini API in Google AI Studio, Android Studio and Google’s enterprise tools. Gemini 3.5 Pro comes later.
Speed is the main pitch
Google wants Gemini 3.5 Flash to handle longer coding and agentic workflows without the usual latency drag. The company says Flash beats Gemini 3.1 Pro on coding and agent benchmarks. Those tests include Terminal-Bench 2.1, GDPval-AA and MCP Atlas.
Output speed may matter even more. Google says Gemini 3.5 Flash runs four times faster than other frontier models when measured by output tokens per second. An agent feels different when it can edit code, call tools, check results and try again without long pauses.
Developers get a broader rollout
Google also tied Gemini 3.5 Flash to Antigravity, its agent-first development platform. The demos include renaming messy assets, building games with subagents and transforming older codebases into newer stacks. Those examples are marketing, but they show the lane Google wants: supervised work, not casual chat.
Teams testing AI coding agents now have a model that appears across Search, developer tools and enterprise products. That broad placement gives Gemini more chances to become the default before developers even compare subscriptions. The rollout also gives Google a clearer answer to rival coding tools. Developers care about model quality, but they also care about where the model appears. Putting Flash inside familiar Google products may reduce friction for teams that already use those tools.
