The Sift is playable now in Minecraft Dungeons II, which launched September 29.
Mojang first announced the new world at Gamescom, then showed more at Minecraft LIVE on September 26. The dimension comes to Minecraft Java and Bedrock Edition in 2027.
The wait has been long, since The End shipped with the 1.0 release in late 2011. That makes The Sift the first new dimension in over fourteen years. Mojang confirmed two of its biomes: the Meadows and the Carapace.
“Now, prepare yourself for a journey to the Sift,” Xbox Wire wrote in its announcement.
What The Sift looks like
Mojang describes The Sift as an entirely different reality with a colorful new look. It brings new mobs that can be companions or threats, all unique to this world. Shifting tides within the dimension can affect your character and those around you. Hazardous new blocks also change how you approach exploration.
Xbox CEO Asha Sharma also teased the new dimension on X during the event.
Mojang also shared a brief in-development look at The Sift, per Xbox Wire. It did not say how players will access it once it lands next year.
Dungeons II gets there first
You can step into The Sift now if you play Minecraft Dungeons II. Early on in the dungeon crawler, strange events upend the Overworld and new enemy types appear. Eventually, a rift transports you to the Sift.
Dungeons II is out now on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Steam, PlayStation 5 and both Nintendo Switch consoles. It is included with Game Pass.
Meanwhile, Minecraft itself arrives on the Switch 2 on October 27. We covered that when Mojang confirmed the date and Vibrant Visuals upgrade in August. The sequel’s arrival also follows its release date and price leak on the Nintendo eShop back in June.
Mojang is keeping other areas of The Sift secret for now. Play Dungeons II to learn its rules before 2027. It gives a taste of the mobs, blocks and biomes coming to the base game.
