Instax Pal 2 App Bug Shrinks 10 MP USB-C No Frame Saves

Fujifilm plans a late-October app fix for 10 MP USB-C photos that save at 1 MP with No Frame.

The Instax Pal 2 plugs into a smartphone for USB-C photo transfers, but an app bug affects how it saves some images. Fujifilm’s October 9 support notice identifies the combination: capture at 10 MP, transfer over USB-C, then select No Frame in the app. The app currently saves those photos at 1 MP. Fujifilm plans a fix for late October 2026.

What the app update will change

USB-C still transfers images at the camera’s selected resolution. The problem occurs when the app saves them with No Frame. By contrast, Bluetooth transfers deliberately compress photos to 1 MP. That lower wireless resolution is normal behavior, separate from the saving bug.

After the planned update, No Frame will save unedited images at their transferred resolution. However, app edits carry a separate limit. Users will choose between Original Image and Edited Image when saving an edited photo. Selecting Edited Image with No Frame will still produce a 1 MP file. To retain the transferred resolution, choose Original Image instead; that saves the original rather than the edited version.

How wired transfers work

Fujifilm’s launch announcement describes pairing the camera with the dedicated app over Bluetooth first. Then users connect the camera to the phone’s USB-C port. Fujifilm estimates about 0.7 seconds per image, depending on conditions including image size.

The listed phone requirements are a USB-C iPhone running iOS 16 or later, or an Android device running Android 12 or later. Meanwhile, the camera’s internal storage holds 100 images, compared with 50 on the original Instax Pal. An optional microSD card, sold separately, adds storage.

A small camera, with printing sold separately

The Instax Pal 2 combines an optical finder and top LCD with a physical dial and lever. It offers mini, SQUARE, WIDE and No Frame shooting formats. For a different look, users can load up to six of its 30 effects onto the camera. Animation mode also combines up to ten consecutive frames.

Despite the Instax name, this digital camera has no built-in printer. Printing requires a separate compatible Instax Link printer or hybrid instant camera, plus film. Readers looking for a film camera can explore our coverage of Fujifilm’s QuickSnap disposable cameras.

Fujifilm’s US product page lists a $169.95 MSRP. That is the camera price; printing equipment and film cost extra. For owners using 10 MP USB-C transfers, the support notice adds a reason to watch for the planned app update.
