The iOS 27 release date is Monday, September 14, according to Apple’s updated software page. The free update brings Siri AI to eligible iPhones, alongside design refinements and new family controls. However, the assistant starts as an English-language beta, with hardware and regional restrictions that deserve attention before you update.
The announcement follows the iOS 27 public beta we covered in July. This time, Apple has set the public release date. Still, the operating system and its headline AI feature do not share the same compatibility list.
iOS 27 release date and compatible iPhones
Apple lists iPhone 11 and later models, plus iPhone SE from the second generation onward, as compatible with iOS 27. By contrast, Apple Intelligence and Siri AI require an iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or an iPhone 16 model or later. Therefore, an ordinary iPhone 15 can receive the system update without gaining the new assistant.
The update and the assistant have different entry requirements. For example, a newer model number alone does not explain every feature limit. Apple also applies narrower hardware requirements to some extras, including Siri’s customizable voice controls. Check the specific feature you want before treating an upgrade as a complete AI package.
Siri AI starts in English, with regional limits
Apple’s September announcement says Siri AI begins rolling out in English on September 14. French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish support follows in October. Meanwhile, Apple’s current iOS footnotes say the assistant will not initially launch in the EU on iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch. Our earlier coverage explains Apple’s EU delay announcement.
Some server-based AI features have daily usage limits. Apple says those limits can vary with the feature, request complexity and demand, among other factors. It also plans paid expanded access in the future. A free system update does not promise unlimited AI use.
What Siri AI changes, and what comes later
Apple describes an assistant that can find personal information, answer follow-up questions and act across supported apps. A dedicated Siri app collects conversations so users can return to them. The official screenshot below shows that history interface; it comes from Apple’s June preview rather than our own hands-on testing.
Apple’s short demonstration shows a gesture for opening Siri from the Dynamic Island. It illustrates the interface, rather than proving how accurately the assistant handles complex requests.
Beyond Siri, iOS 27 adds Liquid Glass contrast controls, performance refinements and expanded parental controls. However, Apple’s page marks automatic password fixing for a future software update. Suggestions within Messages conversations also come later. Consequently, the iOS 27 release date should not become a blanket promise for every advertised feature.
Apple lists September 14 for iPadOS 27 and macOS 27 Golden Gate. Before updating your main device, back it up and check the apps you rely on. The useful question is which changes your own hardware, language and region will support.
