Apple Says Siri AI Has No EU Timeline for iPhone and iPad

Apple says Digital Markets Act concerns mean Siri AI has no iPhone or iPad launch timeline in the European Union.

Apple says its new Siri AI will not ship on iPhone or iPad in the European Union when iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 arrive.

In an Apple Newsroom update, the company blamed the Digital Markets Act. Apple also said it has no timeline for bringing Siri AI to iOS and iPadOS users in the EU.

The delay also affects watchOS 27 in the region. Apple says Siri AI on Apple Watch needs a paired iPhone with Siri AI. Because of that, EU users will not get the new assistant on watchOS 27 either.

Apple says the issue is access and control

Apple argues that the DMA could force it to give outside AI systems broad access to device data and actions. The company says that could include messages, emails, photos, files, settings, and app functions.

To answer those concerns, Apple says it proposed a Trusted System Agent. The intermediary would let other virtual assistants use the same features and capabilities as Siri AI on EU devices. Apple says the European Commission rejected its proposals.

Mac and Vision Pro users get a different answer

The EU delay is not universal across every Apple platform. Apple says Siri AI will still be available to EU users on macOS 27 and visionOS 27.

Developers located in the EU also lose access on iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and watchOS 27. They will not be able to test or use the new Siri AI features for their apps on those platforms.

That matters because Siri AI is designed to reach deeper into apps, onscreen context, writing tools, Visual Intelligence, and personal actions. If developers cannot test it locally, EU app support may lag even if Apple finds a path later.

Apple also says Siri AI and other new Apple Intelligence features will not be available in China while it works through regulatory requirements. For other regions, Apple describes Siri AI as a beta coming later this year on supported devices and languages.

The news adds a regional warning around the iOS 27 developer beta. The new assistant may be one of Apple’s biggest software stories of the year. For EU iPhone and iPad users, though, it is now waiting without a date.
