I guess we now know what Netflix’s trademark filings for the Fast logo is all about. As if their ISP Speed Index rating that gives users a monthly insight of their internet connection is not enough, the company’s Fast.com service is a web page that loads and runs an upload speed test of your internet connection in real time. I don’t know why you’d want to use the new Fast.com service, maybe, knowing that it comes with no ads or plugins whatsoever might be a deal breaker for you.
Unlike other speed test services, it seems like Netflix doesn’t want any competition of any sort, as the site also links your result to speedtest.net for comparison and more information. The Fast.com service will work on both mobile and broadband, the VP of content delivery architecture David Fullagar also noted in a recent blog post that, “Like the cellular data controls we recently introduced, fast.com is another tool consumers can use for greater insight and control of their internet service.” Thre you go, that’s all there is to know about Fast.com, be prepared to have your timeline flooded with screenshots of their speed test result.
