Avatar The Last Airbender Season 2 is coming to Netflix on June 25. The streaming service dropped the official trailer this week, and Toph is front and center. The beloved earthbender makes her live-action debut in the new season.
In fact, the season closely follows the original animated series’s second arc. Fans know what that means: Aang has to master earthbending, and Toph Beifong is the one to teach him. However, this live-action Toph brings a distinct energy that the trailer puts on full display.
Avatar The Last Airbender Season 2: Trailer Details Worth Noting
Netflix also released an audio description version of the same trailer. The decision connects directly to the source material. Toph is visually impaired in the series. Still, the production made a point of extending audio access to listeners who rely on that format.
Avatar The Last Airbender Season 2 has already been renewed for a third season. Furthermore, that third season will likely serve as the final chapter, following the structure of the original animated run. Franchise creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko are not involved with the Netflix version. Their absence has been a point of contention since the show’s rocky development period.
More Avatar Universe Projects Are in the Pipeline
Additionally, a new animated series set in the Avatar universe is in development at Nickelodeon. It takes place after the events of The Legend of Korra. Meanwhile, a feature-length animated film is set to arrive on streaming in October.
That film, The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender, follows Aang, Toph, and the rest of the group as adults. It became a source of controversy earlier this year. Indeed, a hacker leaked an early version online and was subsequently arrested. The suspect reportedly admitted the leak and described it as trolling.
