The Audible Interactive Story is a voice conversation with an AI character. The first one puts listeners in a chat with Dracula’s servant Renfield. Audible announced the feature on October 1. It arrives this fall as a limited beta for US and UK customers.
However, Audible’s own app screen carries the fine print that the announcement skips.
How the Audible Interactive Story works
Audible describes each Interactive Story as a real-time conversation with a character. The company combines generative AI, conversational design and sound production. The character speaks first and assigns the listener a role, a goal and stakes. Then the listener answers in their own words, and the character reacts.
For example, creators set the foundations, including opening scenes, turning points and the character’s persona. Audible says its product design keeps the story faithful to the creator’s vision. The first story accompanies the Audible Original adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, which launched on October 1.

The fine print on Audible’s screen
Audible’s mock-up shows a title called “Dracula: Renfield on the Run” with a Beta badge. It tells listeners to speak aloud, so sound and the microphone must be on. The screen lists a playtime of about 15 minutes and credits the voice of Johnny Flynn.
It also warns that the AI-powered story contains mature themes. Listener responses shape the AI replies, which use “voice replica technology.” In addition, the screen tells people to never include sensitive information. It links to an explanation of how Audible handles data.
AI is allowing us to create new interactive experiences that today’s listeners, especially younger audiences, are craving.

Still, Audible gives no exact launch date for the Renfield story, only “this fall.” The next Interactive Story arrives on November 5. It is set in the world of the Audible Original Exoplanet. Author Benjamin Percy helped create it, and Andy Weir executive produces the original.
Character Guide and Visual Explorer
Two other features are less experimental, so they may matter more day to day. Character Guide shows who is speaking in real time on the player page. It also adds spoiler-free character cards with narrator headshots and bios. It launched with Dracula and already works in the Audible Original of George Orwell’s 1984.
Soon, Character Guide will also let listeners ask questions about the production as a story unfolds. Meanwhile, Visual Explorer is “coming soon.” It will show maps or images at key moments. Its first title is The Cultural Tutor’s Grand Tour: The Story of Europe in Six Cities.

Other audio services are adding AI conversation too. Tech My Money covered how Spotify lets listeners chat with podcasts and how narrated articles joined its audiobook library.
