Xiaomi has officially launched the Redmi Buds 8 in global markets, offering a premium audio experience for a budget-friendly price. Expanding beyond its initial Asian release, the wireless earbuds are now available in both the UK and Germany. Specifically, UK customers can purchase the device for £40, while German buyers receive a launch price of €50 before the MSRP rises to €60. This aggressive pricing strategy allows Xiaomi to challenge premium competitors in the market. In fact, Valve recently adopted a similar disruptive pricing model for its new Steam Machine mini PC.

By comparison, Apple’s flagship AirPods Pro sell for £219 in the UK, making them more than five times as expensive. While Apple’s offering includes advanced ecosystem capabilities and health-tracking features, Xiaomi positions its earbuds as a highly affordable alternative with Active Noise Cancellation (ANC). Notably, the budget earbuds deliver up to 50dB of noise reduction alongside a 4kHz noise-cancelling frequency range. Consequently, users can block out ambient sounds during their daily commute without spending hundreds of dollars.

To deliver rich sound quality, the company equips the Redmi Buds 8 with 11mm dynamic drivers. Additionally, the earbuds support Hi-Res Audio Wireless and the LHDC codec for high-fidelity audio transmission. However, unlocking LHDC requires a compatible smartphone and a future firmware update. To customize the sound signature, listeners can choose between five pre-configured equalizer settings or design a personalized profile using the Sound ID hearing test.

Battery performance represents another highlight of the new accessory. When users switch off the noise-cancelling feature, the earbuds last up to 11 hours on a single charge. Furthermore, the charging case extends the total playback time to 44 hours. If you activate the ANC, the battery life drops to 6.5 hours for the earbuds and 28 hours total. Fortunately, a quick ten-minute charge provides up to four hours of continuous music playback.

Meanwhile, the earbuds include modern connectivity features like Bluetooth 5.4, dual-device connection, and Google Fast Pair. The IP54 rating also ensures dust and water resistance for outdoor workouts. Recently, we discussed extreme endurance when the NASA Perseverance Rover completed its historic Martian marathon. Similarly, the Redmi Buds 8 bring robust durability to daily consumer audio gear.
