Amazon has rebuilt its tablets around Android. The Amazon Kids Tablets are where families meet that shift, with US starting prices of $229.99 for Kids Tablet 8 and $329.99 for Kids Tablet 11. Announced October 8, 2026, both are available to preorder ahead of US shipping on October 14.
Each bundle includes the tablet, a kid-proof case and one year of Amazon Kids+. The buying decision has two parts: screen size and age edition. Both sizes come in versions for children aged 3 and up or 6 and up, with different cases and age-appropriate content.
Two sizes, with cases for younger and older kids
Kids Tablet 8 has an 8.7-inch display and 64 GB of storage. Amazon rates it for 14 hours of video playback; that figure is a manufacturer claim, not our battery test. Kids Tablet 11 adds an 11-inch 2.5K display, 8 GB of RAM and stylus support for drawing or homework.
The larger model’s advertised starting price is $100 higher. Amazon’s announcement does not identify a compatible stylus or say one is included, so parents interested in drawing should check the accessory requirements before buying.
Younger children’s editions have soft bumper cases with grab handles. Older children’s editions use slim hard cases with built-in kickstands. Designs include Paw Patrol, Barbie and SpongeBob SquarePants, and each tablet comes with a one-year limited warranty.

What parents control, and what kids get
Android brings access to Google Play alongside the Kids+ catalog, but parents manage that access through Parent Dashboard. Amazon says, “Every download goes through parental approval, so kids get more room to explore and parents stay in control.”
Parent Dashboard comes preinstalled and is also available as a free iOS and Android app. Parents can set screen-time limits, review activity, control web browsing and pause or resume a child’s device remotely. Learn First prioritizes Kids+ reading and educational apps before entertainment. The dashboard supports profiles for up to four children and settings across compatible Amazon devices.
Kids+ also introduces Storybuilder, an AI feature that turns a child’s spoken ideas into picture books and comics. Parents can see creations from Storybuilder, Stories with Alexa and Art Studio in the dashboard. These are Amazon’s descriptions of the tools; we have not tested their output or parental controls.

What happens after the included year of Kids+
The included subscription lasts one year. Amazon lists ongoing US subscriptions starting at $7.99 a month for Prime members and $8.99 for non-Prime customers. That recurring cost belongs in the budget alongside the tablet’s purchase price.
Kids+ also works on compatible Fire tablets, Kindle devices, Fire TV and Echo devices, plus adult Alexa tablets configured with a child profile. Families with supported older hardware therefore do not need one of the new tablets simply to access Kids+.
For existing Fire owners, check Amazon’s device-specific security-update policy before deciding to replace a tablet. It promises at least four years from purchase for devices bought new from Amazon as the seller on Amazon.com, or the listed device date if later. Other sellers and refurbished devices have separate guidance. Security-update coverage does not guarantee a device’s useful lifespan.
Where and when the tablets arrive
Amazon Kids Tablets ship October 14 in the US, Mexico, Canada and Japan. Availability in the UK, Germany, France, Italy and Spain follows October 19. Amazon also names Best Buy and Target as retail partners. The $229.99 and $329.99 figures are US starting prices, not confirmed prices for those other markets.
The launch sits alongside Amazon’s new Kindle lineup and the Fire TV Alexa+ hub planned for selected US devices in November. For this purchase, the practical choices are the child’s age edition, screen size, required apps and the cost of keeping Kids+ after the bundled year.
