Tinder Group Hangouts lets friends match with other friend groups and plan an activity together. In its September 30 announcement, Tinder says the feature is launching in the U.S. and select markets through a phased rollout. It gives users another way to meet people alongside their friends.
The feature builds on Double Date, which Tinder introduced in June 2025. However, Group Hangouts expands the format beyond pairs: a group needs at least three members, and the groups that match do not need equal numbers.
How Tinder Group Hangouts works
One person creates a group, chooses an activity and invites at least two friends. Once enough people join, the group profile can appear in Tinder’s main card stack. The help page also says groups need an activity and a time before they can discover other groups.
For example, the plan could involve karaoke, mini-golf or a night out. Members browse other group profiles and express interest. When someone from each group sends a Like to the other group, Tinder opens a shared chat for everyone involved.
From there, the chat becomes a place to break the ice and work out the plan. The flexibility extends to group size. Tinder puts it plainly: “Groups don’t need to be the same size”.
That makes the group match a starting point for a shared outing. It does not mean every participant has matched individually with everyone else. Meanwhile, Tinder’s help page says users can also Like an individual in a group to open a direct conversation.
Free access, phased availability and personal controls
Tinder’s Group Hangouts help page describes it as a free feature under testing in select markets. However, premium benefits such as Boosts and Super Likes do not currently work within Groups. Tinder also warns that invitations, group limits and other details may change during testing.
Availability will vary by market, so the announcement does not promise that every account gets it immediately. In supported markets, users can look for Group Hangouts at the top of the home screen. Settings let people emphasize group profiles or hide them entirely.
The web version has a narrower role. Specifically, Tinder says existing group conversations can continue on the web, but the other group functions are not available there yet. That limit matters when choosing where to start or manage the experience.
Every participant needs their own Tinder account and chooses whether to join. In addition, a member can leave a conversation without leaving their friend group, and can block or report someone. Tinder says its existing moderation and safety tools apply, including Face Check where available.
More friends in the dating experience
Double Date provides the context for this update. Its paired profiles brought friends into the matching experience; Group Hangouts now organizes larger groups around plans. The screenshot below shows Double Date, rather than the new Group Hangouts interface shown in the featured artwork.

Meanwhile, Tinder reports that 40% of Group Hangouts invitations were accepted in Australian testing. It also says women were 2.2 times more likely to Like a group profile than a traditional individual profile. Both figures come from Tinder’s internal 2026 testing data.
However, those figures measure invitations and profile Likes, rather than successful relationships or better dates. They explain Tinder’s interest in expanding the format, while leaving the quality of the resulting offline meetings an open question.
Other dating apps are also changing how connections start. Our coverage of Bumble’s first-message rule follows a change to opening conversations. Meanwhile, Hinge’s Friend’s Take brings friends into profiles through testimonials. Tinder’s update puts those friends into a shared matching format.
A group conversation changes who can see personal details. Tinder advises members to get consent before sharing private information, including contact details. The practical choice is whether you want that shared introduction, with controls to keep or remove groups from your Discovery experience.
