Google just made its cheapest paid AI plan noticeably more practical. Google AI Plus is dropping to $4.99 a month, down from $7.99, and the included cloud storage is doubling from 200GB to 400GB across Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Photos. The new pricing and storage tier are already live on the Google One plans page. Google’s Gemini subscription product lead, Vikas Kansal, framed the move as a way to make Gemini models easier for more people to actually use.

What $4.99 a month actually gets you

The price cut lands alongside a feature bump. AI Plus now includes 2x higher Gemini usage limits compared to a free Google account, access to Gemini 3.1 Pro in the Gemini app, Gemini Omni for video generation, the new Daily Brief agent that summarizes a user’s day inside the Gemini app, and AI Inbox in Gmail, which is rolling out in the US. Existing subscribers should see the extra storage land in the next few days, with the lower price showing up on the next bill.

The 400GB tier is the most concrete change for most readers. 200GB of free Google storage fills up fast once Gmail attachments, Drive folders, and Google Photos originals are counted. Doubling that to 400GB means a typical user can back up several years of photos and a few thousand documents without bumping into the storage limit, and share that pool with up to five family members at no extra cost.

How AI Plus at $4.99 compares to AI Pro at $19.99

For readers weighing the $4.99 AI Plus tier against Google’s $19.99 AI Pro plan, the practical trade-off is usage limits and bundled perks, not the core Gemini model access. AI Pro gives you 4x the Gemini limits, deeper Flow credits, YouTube Premium Lite, Google Home Premium, and 5TB of storage. AI Plus keeps the same Gemini 3.1 Pro, the same NotebookLM, and the same AI Inbox in Gmail, but caps how many video generations and complex Deep Research runs you can do per month.

If you mostly want a usable monthly pool of Gemini access, daily-driver AI Inbox summaries, and enough cloud storage to stop juggling quotas, AI Plus at $4.99 is the most sensible entry point in Google’s AI lineup. If you are actively shipping code, generating long videos, or want the Home Premium and YouTube Premium Lite bundles, the $19.99 AI Pro tier is the better fit.

New subscribers can sign up directly on the Google One plans page. Existing AI Plus subscribers do not need to take any action; the storage upgrade and the new price land automatically. For more Google coverage, follow our Google news hub.
