The Kodak EC35 is a pocket-size beginner 35mm film camera from Reto, sold under licensed Kodak branding. It costs $34.99 for the camera alone and aims for the same carefree feel as a disposable without the single-use body.
Reto has already released Kodak-branded cameras such as the Charmera and Snapic A1. However, the EC35 keeps things simpler. It locks exposure to fixed settings, adds a tactile slide cover, and comes in seven colors for everyday carry.
What the Kodak EC35 offers
According to the official product page, the EC35 uses 35mm film with manual wind and rewind. The optical lens is a 25mm f/10 two-element acrylic design. Shutter speed stays fixed at 1/100 second, so you point, shoot, and advance the roll.
A built-in flash is available for dimmer scenes. Power comes from one AA alkaline battery. Film and battery are not included with the camera-only package, while a camera strap is included. The ABS body measures 119 x 65 x 41.5 mm and weighs 102 g.
Those dimensions make the EC35 easy to carry in a small bag or coat pocket. Meanwhile, the fixed optics remove the aperture dials and shutter menus that can intimidate new film shooters.
Slide cover, colors, and the kit options
The signature detail is the sliding cover. Reto says it protects the lens and doubles as an automatic shutter lock when closed. Therefore, you can carry the camera in a bag with less risk of exposing a frame accidentally.
Color choices are Midnight Black, Vanilla White, Butter Yellow, Lavender, Powder Blue, Blush Pink, and Avocado Green. Additionally, Reto sells a $44.99 bundle that adds a 24-exposure roll of Kodak Ultramax 400, exactly $10 more than the camera-only package.
That film bundle matters. Reto uses the Kodak trademarks under license, and the kit includes Kodak Ultramax 400-branded film. However, Reto notes that the roll may arrive in Kodak Alaris or Eastman Kodak packaging, depending on availability. For beginners, the kit removes one shopping step before the first roll.
How it fits the budget film wave
Simple film tools keep stacking up. Tech My Money already covered Reto’s Kodak Charmera Y2K designs, and Fujifilm recently marked another disposable milestone with its QuickSnap 40th anniversary cameras. The EC35 sits in that same low-friction lane, though it reloads like a regular point-and-shoot instead of using a one-and-done body.
Compared with pricier Kodak-branded Reto options, the EC35 lowers the entry price. The Snapic A1 and older Ektar H35 half-frame models cost more and add features. By contrast, the EC35 focuses on a simple load-film-and-go experience.
Still, fixed exposure means trade-offs. Bright beach light and dim indoor parties both rely on the same 1/100-second shutter and f/10 aperture, with the flash available when needed. Consequently, this is a creative snapshot camera rather than a tool for manual control.
