Samsung has announced recently that they have a joint partnership with SRI International, and that they are licensed to use its Iris on the Move® (IOM) technology for future Samsung mobile devices. SRI also benefits from this agreement by entering a sales, supply and production agreement for IOM technology-embedded Samsung mobile products for B2B applications.
The first device that will benefit from this partnership is a re-worked version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 tablet, which would come with a built-in IOM iris module. The IOM model would bring easy-to-use, fast and accurate biometric identity solution to its users. IRIS based solutions are proven to be 1000 times faster than current fingerprint based security methods. While fingerprint solutions can be used in various lighting conditions, IRIS based solutions on the Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 would benefit from lighting even more.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 tablet with built-in IOM iris module has the same specs as the original version. It sports a 8.4-inch (2560 x 1600 pixels) LCD display, powered by a 2.3Ghz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 MSM8974 processor with Adreno 330GPU, 2GB of RAM, 16GB space of internal storage, 8MP rear camera, 4G LTE, Android 4.4 Kitkat and a non-replaceable 4800mAh battery.
SRI International stated the following message, specifically about this Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4:
“SRI has entered into a supply agreement to start production and sales of the IOM technology-embedded Samsung mobile products for B2B applications. The initial product for this supply agreement will be a customized Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 tablet with a built-in IOM iris module.”
The Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 tablet is expected to be showcased at the ISC West 2015 conference on April 15 – 17.
