Sometime last year, Google started letting users link their Gmail accounts with their Yahoo! and Outlook accounts so as to give them a unified experience. Google recently announced a new Gmail feature called Gmailify, the new feature gives non-Gmail addresses a native Gmail experience. They will now be able to get the Google Now cards notification, organized like the native inbox and even be protected by Google’s spam filters. This simple means that your non-Gmail address will look and act like a typical Gmail address when accessed through the Android app. in order to enable the new Gmailify feature, you’ll have to manually do it by linking your outside account to Gmail.
Gmailify features you’ll get by linking all your mail
If you use the Gmail Android app to view mail from another provider, like Microsoft Outlook, Hotmail, or Yahoo! Mail, you can now get Gmail’s powerful features with your existing address. These features include:
- Gmail’s spam protection
- Automatically sorting email based on type (Social, Updates, Promotions)
- Faster search, with advanced search operators
- Travel and hotel reservations appearing automatically in Google Now
- All your mail in one place.
- Better mail notifications on mobile
How to link your Gmail account or set up a new one
You can link your Yahoo! Mail, Hotmail, or Outlook.com email address to your existing Gmail address, or create a brand-new Gmail address and link to this new address. When you sign in to the linked Gmail address, you’ll see your messages from the other email provider in your mailbox. You’ll be able to read, reply, and organize them just like you do in Gmail.
