Sometime in April, Amazon released its SDK for the Amazon Echo Wireless Speaker to a bunch of developers. We saw some working example then with developer Jeffrey Bachand who built some apps fo the Amazon Echo speaker to command Wink hub connected smart lights. As of yesterday, both companies announced that wink is now compatible with Amazon Echo Wireless Speakers. This means that, if you’ve connected your home with Wink’s smart home hub and appliances, you can now say things like “Alexa, turn on the living room lamp ” or “Alexa, turn off the kitchen light” and Amazon Echo will execute the command in a blink of an eye. Amazon Echo lovers can also control a number of Wink-compatible lighting products from GELeviton, and Lutron.

How to connect your Amazon Echo Wireless Speaker to your Wink system:

  1. Connect compatible products in your Wink app and set individual names for each lighting product (bedroom lamp, kitchen light, etc.).
  2. Then, link your Wink account to Echo within the Echo mobile app (Settings > Connected Home > Device Links > Wink).
  3. From there, say “Alexa, discover new devices.” This can take up to 20 seconds.
