Chromebooks Can Now Load A New OS Through A USB Drive

Before now, running a different OS safely on a Chromebook without breaking anything required extreme measures or just running it in a window. The chromium team added a new feature that enables booting from USB so you can install an OS image from a USB drive on your Chromebook.

See the full list of features added by the chromium team below

– Remove rootfs verification so you can modify OS files
– Enable SSH access to the device using the standard test keys so you can use tools such as cros flash
– Set both the dev and the system root login password to a custom value so you can manually SSH into the device
