Finding the right Google Calendar event colors to organize a busy schedule is about to get much easier. Specifically, the platform is expanding its color options from the classic 11 predefined hues up to 200 custom choices. Consequently, users who manage complex calendars will no longer have to double or triple up on the same shades.
The update introduces two main changes to how event customization works. First, Google is expanding the standard color palette to 24 default choices. These defaults are available on both web and mobile versions of the application. Second, web and API users now get access to a full RGB color picker. This allows individuals to enter hex codes or choose any color they want for their events.

However, mobile users on Android and iOS will face some design limits. The custom RGB picker is exclusive to the web version and the API. Still, mobile users can view all 200 custom colors created on the web. They can also select from the new list of 24 default colors on their phones.
Google is rolling out this customization update automatically. Notably, there are no administrator controls for the feature, meaning it will be active by default for everyone. Google plans to roll the update out over the next few weeks. The feature is available to all Google Workspace customers, Workspace Individual subscribers, and personal Google account holders.
This color update is part of Google’s broader effort to modernize its productivity suite. For instance, the company recently announced pricing adjustments for its subscription services, including a major discount for its Google AI Plus plan. The company also brought web-browser compatibility to popular tools like the Google Earth flight simulator. Ultimately, this new calendar feature gives users the flexibility they need to personalize their digital workspace.
