WhatsApp iPad signup is finally a real option. Meta says you can create a WhatsApp account directly in the iPad app, set it up there, and start chatting without first linking a phone as a companion device.
The iPad app is no longer only a second screen for an existing phone install. WhatsApp is treating tablets more like first-class devices for new users.
WhatsApp iPad registration and usernames
Previously, iPad users could not create a WhatsApp account on the tablet itself. They had to lean on a linked phone. Now you can register on the iPad app and finish setup there. WhatsApp is also pushing usernames so people can chat without handing over a phone number as the public identity.
Registration still follows WhatsApp’s verification reality. You still need a phone number that can receive a one-time passcode during signup. The finished iPad account is not forced to live as a companion clone of a phone install. Usernames remain the public handle people can share after setup.
CarPlay, Android Auto, PDFs, and music Status
The same WhatsApp feature roundup also refreshes in-car use. On CarPlay and Android Auto, you can hear and respond to messages, place calls, see call history, and reach favorites from the car screen. WhatsApp says the car experience is no longer limited to a voice-only shell.
On web and desktop, PDFs open inside WhatsApp without a separate download step. Adobe Acrobat powers lightweight edits such as highlight and annotate in chat. Shared travel plans and work PDFs can stay inside the conversation. You can mark a schedule and send it back without bouncing through another app first.
Status can pull songs from Apple Music or Spotify. Friends see what you are listening to without leaving WhatsApp. The package is less about one flashy feature and more about WhatsApp following people across tablet, car, and desktop workflows.
