Apple introduced us to a new way for them to improve app building by making it easier to use. Since then it has attracted tons of developers that love this new programming language called, Swift. Now Apple plans to make app building more approachable for more (and current) developers by now offering Swift as an open source project. By making Swift open source, Apple will give developers full access to all of Swift’s programming.
“We think Swift is the next big programming language, the one that we’ll all be doing application and system programming on for 20 years to come,” “We think Swift should be everywhere and used by everyone.”Apple's SVP of Software Engineering, Craig Federighi
The Swift programming language will also be receiving some new upgrades this year, as well as a new name (Swift 2). The new version of Swift will receive support for new optimization technology, protocol extensions and much shorter compile times.
