A new Google Chrome extension will be released for Google Drive. You can now open your files from Google Cloud directly onto applications installed on your computer’s desktop. Once the Chrome extension is installed, users can right click on applications stored in Google Drive and open them using a compatible application, such as Adobe Photoshop, or Microsoft Word, on their computer.

In order to get the new extension, users are advised to download and install the latest 1.18 version of the Google Drive app for PC or Mac OS and sync it with their files. Afterwards, visit Google Drive in the browser. Right click on the file, selecting ‘Open with’ to see a list of the applications compatible on your computer. The new extension is supposed to make access files and editing them easier for the average user. The only downside is that this will only work if you have the Google Chrome Browser, which is available for download here.

Find and add files shared with you more easily.
Single-click a file to select it and double-click a file to open it.
Drag-and-drop files and folders just like you do on your desktop.
Improved accessibility.
