Anthropic is giving regular Claude users an early taste of its Mythos-class AI capabilities with Claude Fable 5. The company says the new model is safer for general release than Claude Mythos 5.
Anthropic announced Claude Fable 5 and Claude Mythos 5 on Tuesday. Fable 5 brings many of the same capabilities to public users. However, it routes some sensitive requests through Claude Opus 4.8 instead.
That safeguard is the big difference. Anthropic says Mythos 5 uses the same underlying model as Fable 5. Mythos has fewer restrictions in some areas, so it is initially going to cyber defenders and infrastructure partners through Project Glasswing.
Why Fable 5 matters
Anthropic says Fable 5 beats its previous public models on longer and more complex tasks. The company highlights software engineering, knowledge work, vision, scientific research, memory, and cybersecurity.
The vision claims are especially practical. Anthropic says Fable 5 can pull precise numbers from detailed scientific figures. It can also rebuild a web app’s source code from screenshots. The company says the model beat Pokemon FireRed with only a minimal vision-based setup.

Access is still cautious
Claude subscribers on Pro, Max, Team, and seat-based Enterprise plans can try Fable 5 at no extra cost through June 22. Starting June 23, Anthropic says Fable 5 will require usage credits unless capacity lets it extend the included window.
The API price is $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens. Anthropic says it wants to restore Fable 5 as a standard subscription model when capacity allows.
The cautious rollout matters because the Mythos line has powerful cybersecurity capabilities. Tech My Money covered Anthropic’s earlier Project Glasswing expansion, where select partners got Claude Mythos Preview for defensive security work.
Fable 5 now turns part of that story toward everyday Claude users. It is not the unrestricted Mythos 5 release. Still, it is Anthropic’s clearest attempt yet to make Mythos-level capabilities broadly useful without opening the full risk profile to everyone.
