Smartphone makers outfitting their devices with FM radio support in emerging markets is not a new practice. The manufacturers add this feature for those markets because it saves data and it doesn’t drain the device’s battery life. LG just decided it’s time to bring digital radio to a modern device with the unveiling of the world’s first smartphone (the LG Stylus 2) to feature DAB+ radio support. LG revealed this at Radiodays Europe 2016 in Paris, the world’s largest radio conference. The target market for the LG Stylus 2 with DAB+ will be in Europe as broadcasters in this embrace DAB and DAB+, unlike their US counterparts that adopted the HD Radio standard. Consumers in Australia, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway and the United Kingdom will be the first to receive the LG Stylus 2 with DAB+. There’re no plans for the Stylus 2 to make it to the US.
The LG Stylus 2 features a 5.7-inch 1280 x 720 display, quad-core 1.2 GHz processor, 1.5GB of RAM, 13-megapixel camera, 1 watt speaker and a 3,000mAh removable battery. This time around, the Stylus 2 pen comes with cool smart features like the Pen Pop shortcut menu that house the Pop Memo and Pop Scanner apps. The Stylus 2 Pen Keeper lets you know when you walk off without your stylus.
