Pacemaker

We all know one of the biggest challenges in this life is trying to live healthy. With the mass of advertisements from junk foods, fast foods and processed foods, one can get a bit carried away. This could lead from a person being mildly overweight to literally being obese. Once obesity resides in, exercise and eating healthy gets thrown out of the window. You lose the urge to want to change that lifestyle. Then your emotions set in, many of us have become “emotional eaters,” with hunger desires even though we had a meal a few hours later (sometimes minutes).

Well the US Food and Drug Administration has approved a first-of-its-kind appetite controlling device, EnteroMedics’ Maestro Rechargeable System. This is a pacemaker for your stomach. It just sits right under your abdomen and sends various electronic pulses that can block your hunger signals and send signals to your brain that you are full. The goal is to give you full control of your hunger.

But the pacemaker isn’t yet available for mass production. Patients that have tested a Maestro only lost 8.5 percent more excess weight in a year. The FDA wants EnteroMedics to conduct a five-year study to see if its claims match the reality. And just so you know, many health insurance policies won’t cover this device and the surgery. But if the Maestro pacemaker does work as promised, it could be a lifesaver for anyone whose weight issues are driving them crazy.
