Siri AI in CarPlay is rolling out in English as a beta on iOS 27. Apple says the assistant keeps you informed without taking your hands off the wheel. Apple Support’s How to get Siri AI page, published September 22, 2026, also requires an Apple Intelligence–enabled iPhone, matching device and Siri languages, and an eligible Apple Account region. The company does not put Siri AI on iOS in the European Union.
Apple’s support page lists iOS 27 on iPhone 15 Pro models and later, iPhone 16 models or later, and iPhone Air. The Apple Intelligence page names those families in full, including iPhone Duo, iPhone 18 Pro models, iPhone 17 models, iPhone 16 models, and iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max. iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are not on that list, so a phone that can sit in CarPlay still may lack Siri AI.
What Apple actually published for the car
On the Apple Intelligence site, the CarPlay section is short. Apple writes that you can ask Siri which trailhead a friend suggested and get the answer instantly. A footnote adds that CarPlay support is either standard or optional on many new 2016 cars and later. Some makers offer software updates for earlier models. Some models support CarPlay only in certain configurations, and not all models are available in all areas. Apple says support is subject to change and tells you to see a dealer for details.
Those two pages do not list a CarPlay mini-player, a new Now Playing scrubber, new wallpapers, or in-car video apps. They stick to the Siri AI claim, the phone list, and the CarPlay vehicle footnote.
Siri AI is a waitlist beta, not a one-tap switch
Apple Support, dated September 22, 2026, says Siri AI is available in beta for iOS 27 when your device language and Siri language match a supported language and your Apple Account is in an eligible region. After you update, you go to Settings, tap Siri, then tap Try Siri AI (Beta). If Siri is off, you turn it on first. On-screen steps cover a voice, voice enrollment, and privacy settings. That adds you to a waitlist, and wait times can vary. Siri AI then downloads automatically when the wait ends.
Siri AI is currently available in English. Availability varies by region and platform. After you turn it on, Apple says it continues to work when you travel. Tech My Money already covered that Apple Adds French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish in October. The current support page still describes English as the language that is available now.
For European Union residents, Siri AI is not available for iOS, iPadOS, or watchOS. It is available for macOS 27 Golden Gate and visionOS 27 if your Apple Account region is in the EU and both languages are English. If your Apple Account region is in mainland China, Siri AI will not currently work. A footnote on the Intelligence page also says certain server-side Apple Intelligence features, including Siri AI, carry daily usage limits, and expanded access will be available for a fee in the future.
What a compatible iPhone still has to do
Even on a listed iPhone, Siri AI needs iOS 27, matching languages, and an eligible region. Apple Intelligence itself is available with Siri and device language set to Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Danish, Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish, or Vietnamese. Some features may not be available in all regions or languages. Some devices may not be available in all regions. Features are subject to change.
The same footnote ties Siri AI to iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, and visionOS 27 on an Apple Intelligence–enabled device set to a supported language. TMM previously logged the iOS 27 release date is September 14, with Siri AI limits. The two Apple pages saved for this story do not republish a full iOS 27 install list for phones that lack Apple Intelligence, so this piece does not guess which older iPhones can update the OS without Siri AI.
