Amazon’s new Kindle lineup is official, and it redesigns every model from the entry-level Kindle to the Colorsoft. Prices start at $149.99, and the two larger models ship on October 28.

Amazon announced the family on October 1 with flush-front displays and body colors that wrap from front to back. However, the launch splits in two. The 6-inch Kindle is on sale now, while the Paperwhite and Colorsoft are preorders.

What changed across the new Kindle lineup

Every device now has a flush-front display, so no raised border surrounds the page. Amazon credits a “reverse stack” display construction, which it calls a first for the e-reader category. As a result, the company says the devices are thinner and more portable.

The color also wraps around the whole body now. Options include Ube, Alpine Sky, Seaglass Green and Graphite, and Fig comes to e-readers for the first time.

The all-new 6-inch Kindle is the most pocket-sized Kindle we’ve ever made.

Kindle: $149.99 and available now

The 6-inch Kindle has 16GB of storage and up to six weeks of battery life. Amazon also says it opens books 30 percent faster than the previous model. It costs $149.99 in Ube or Graphite, and Amazon’s listing shows that price applies to the version with lockscreen ads.

For the first time, the small Kindle also comes with an aluminum back. That version doubles storage to 32GB and costs $189.99 in Alpine Sky Aluminum or Seaglass Green Aluminum. In addition, Amazon says the housing uses 80 percent recycled aluminum.

Kindle Paperwhite: $199.99, shipping October 28

The new Paperwhite is thinner and lighter than the last one, and it stays waterproof. Battery life reaches up to 12 weeks, which is double the smaller Kindle’s figure. Amazon also says this is the largest Paperwhite display yet, with the highest contrast ratio of any Paperwhite.

The standard model has 16GB and costs $199.99 in Graphite. Meanwhile, the Signature Edition costs $249.99 in Graphite or Seaglass Green. That extra $50 buys an aluminum back, 32GB of storage, an auto-adjusting front light, dock charging and a double-tap gesture for turning pages.

Amazon’s US listings give both versions a release date of October 28.

Kindle Colorsoft: $289.99 for color

The Colorsoft gets a redesigned display with edge-to-edge color. Amazon says a light guide with nitride LEDs raises brightness without washing out detail. According to Amazon’s listing, the 7-inch screen shows 300 pixels per inch in black and white and 150 in color. Battery life is up to eight weeks.

The base model has 16GB and costs $289.99 in Graphite. The Signature Edition, however, adds the same upgrades as the Paperwhite version for $319.99, in Graphite or Fig. Both are also listed for release on October 28.

Kids editions and new accessories

All three models come in Kids versions with illustrated covers and 12 months of Amazon Kids+. Those start at $179.99.

Amazon also added accessories for turning pages. For example, the $34.99 Kindle Click is a Bluetooth remote that works with the new models and any Kindle from 2024 or later. The $79.99 Page-Turn Cover adds physical buttons, but it only fits the two Signature Editions. A $59.99 Charging Dock supports the same two models, and covers start at $39.99.

Where the new Kindles are sold

The 6-inch Kindle and its aluminum version are on sale now in 19 countries, including the US, Canada, the UK, Germany, Japan and Australia. Preorders for the Paperwhite and Colorsoft are opening in those same regions on a rolling basis. Prices and availability can change, so check Amazon for current details.

The redesign follows steady demand. Amazon says Kindle has posted double-digit growth for three consecutive years, with more than 720 billion pages read in 2025. On the software side, Tech My Money covered Amazon’s Story So Far recaps when they reached Kindle readers in June.

Rivals are chasing the same pocket-sized format. For example, the Boox Go 6 Gen II is a 6-inch e-reader with stylus support.
