Invited US shoppers can text Alexa for Shopping

The phone contact is Alexa Shopping, and the wider US rollout is still ahead

On November 6, 2026, Amazon said selected customers can text Alexa for Shopping. Amazon says the texting option starts rolling out that day to a small group of U.S. customers. The start is invitation only. Alexa for Shopping is already in the Amazon Shopping app and on Amazon’s website.

The company says the texting option will reach millions more customers in the coming weeks.

People who already have access accept the terms and link a phone number. The contact then appears on the phone as “Alexa Shopping.”

Shoppers who have not received an invitation can sign up for Amazon news and offers by text. The form sits on Amazon’s landing page. Amazon says those shoppers will be among the first to know when more invites go out.

What the texts can do

Amazon says a customer with access can text a weekly grocery order. The same thread can search for a birthday gift needed by Saturday. That customer can send a photo of an outfit and ask for similar looks. A short text can also say that the dog food has run out. Alexa for Shopping then searches, compares options, and messages back with suggestions. When the shopper is ready, it can add the items to the cart and complete the purchase.

In Amazon’s reorder example, the assistant finds last month’s laundry detergent and buys it with the shopper’s approval.

The assistant also remembers preferences a customer shares with it. A request for vegan products sticks. A mention of marathon training factors into later recommendations.

A photo of an item can lead to similar products on Amazon, the company says. Customers can also ask for a price alert or a new-release alert. They can ask for a list change, an order update, or a product comparison.

Amazon says a price-history request can show up to a full year of pricing.

Shop Direct is the path Alexa for Shopping uses to surface products from stores across the web.

Customers can tell the assistant to add items to the cart automatically. Amazon says auto-buy can complete a purchase when the price is right.

Where the conversation continues

Amazon is rolling out a handoff for a request that starts in text. That request can continue in Alexa for Shopping in the Amazon Shopping app, on Amazon.com, and on Alexa-enabled devices. The same handoff works in the other direction. Amazon describes that handoff as a rollout that is still underway.

Over time, Amazon says the Alexa Shopping contact will also include order updates. Delivery notifications and deals join that same thread.

Who already uses the assistant

Amazon says more than 400 million customers have used Alexa for Shopping in the last 12 months.

Amazon says the number of customers using the assistant’s agentic features has grown more than eight times since the start of the year.

“Now with Alexa for Shopping, your personal shopping agent is just a text away,” said Rajiv Mehta, vice president of Conversational Shopping at Amazon. “Message it what you need, and Alexa goes to work on your behalf—searching, comparing, and buying so you can get on with your day.”
