Apple’s new ad rules ban Apple Maps ads that promote home services. Effective July 14, 2026, the policy blocks plumbing, electrical, locksmith, HVAC, pest control, roofing, and general contracting pitches.
So this is not a vague soft guideline. Apple put home services under additional Maps-only prohibitions, next to bans on bail bonds and crypto ATMs. Medical services ads get case-by-case review instead of a hard block.
What Apple banned on Maps
In its News and Stocks, Maps, and Sports Programming Policies, Apple lists content it will not allow on Maps advertising. Section 2.13 says ad content that contains or directly or indirectly promotes home services is prohibited. The examples cover common trade work most people call for at home.
Apple also bans bail bond ads and cryptocurrency ATM ads on Maps. Political ads, weapons, tobacco, and other broad categories remain banned across Apple advertising services. Those rules sit above the Maps-specific list.

How Apple frames Maps ads
On the official Ads on Apple Maps page, Apple still markets the product around discovery. It talks about coffee shops, restaurants, stores, and landmarks. That pitch matches a ban that keeps trades and emergency services out of the placement.
Apple also stresses a privacy-first design for Maps ads. Personal data stays on device. Age and gender are not used for Maps targeting. Ad interaction data uses rotating random identifiers. Advertisers can claim a business location and upload photos before launch.
Launch status and why it matters
Apple has positioned Maps ads as coming soon for local businesses. The product page still frames the rollout as an upcoming US and Canada opportunity rather than a live global switch. Still, publishing effective July 14 policies shows the commercial rules are already locked.
That restraint matters for Services revenue. Apple already sells ads in the App Store and Apple News. Maps ads push advertising deeper into daily navigation. However, blocking home services keeps the first Maps inventory closer to destination discovery than to service marketplaces.
If you track Apple’s services roadmap, this also fits next to everyday Maps upgrades. Our earlier note on iOS 27 Apple services features covered Local Lists and other Maps polish. Meanwhile, App Store rule changes keep stacking by region, including the Brazil app marketplace deal.
What to do next
Read Apple’s policy page for the full prohibited and restricted lists. Then check the Ads on Apple Maps product page for setup steps and privacy claims. For now, treat home services as off-limits when Apple Maps ads go live.
