Google Pixel Studio is no longer behaving like a standalone AI image app. Its latest update now points users toward Nano Banana in Gemini instead.

AssembleDebug surfaced the current change on X with a screenshot of the new redirect screen. It tells Pixel Studio users to create images and animations in Gemini, then gives them a prominent Open Gemini button.

That is a stronger step than the February wind-down. Back then, Google told 9to5Google it would redirect Pixel Studio users to Nano Banana in Gemini over time and offer an export path for existing creations.

What the update removes

Pixel Studio launched with the Pixel 9 line in 2024 as a Pixel-exclusive AI image tool. It could create images from prompts, make stickers, and help edit pictures with generative features.

Those core tools have been fading out. This latest update appears to turn the main experience into a Gemini handoff instead of a place to start new image projects.

Google Play still lists Pixel Studio as a tool for image creation, stickers, captions, screenshot edits, and more. That listing was updated on June 2, 2026, but the user-facing app path now points toward Gemini for generation.

Gemini gets the image work

The destination is Nano Banana in Gemini. Google is also spreading generative image tools across Google Messages and Google Photos, which makes a separate Pixel-only image app harder to justify.

This fits the broader Google AI pattern. Instead of keeping AI features in small showcase apps, the company is moving them into larger products people already use. Tech My Money recently covered a related shift in Google AI Search controls for publishers.

For Pixel owners, the practical move is to save or export any Pixel Studio work that matters. On some phones, the app may still exist, but the feature that made it special is headed to Gemini.
