Witcher 3 Songs of the Past is real, and CD Projekt Red is going back to Geralt before it fully moves the spotlight to the next main Witcher game.
The studio says the new expansion will launch in 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. It will put players back in the boots of Geralt of Rivia for a new adventure.
A surprise return to a huge RPG
CD Projekt Red is co-developing Songs of the Past with Fool’s Theory. That studio includes developers who worked on The Witcher 3, so this is not a random handoff.
The announcement did not include a trailer, price, or story breakdown. However, CD Projekt says more details will arrive in late summer 2026. That timing gives the studio room to build hype without overpromising right away.
For now, the title does most of the talking. Songs of the Past sounds like a story built around memory, old choices, or unfinished contracts.
Why fans will care
The Witcher 3 is still one of the biggest role-playing games of the last decade. CD Projekt says it has sold more than 60 million copies since 2015 and won more than 250 Game of the Year awards.
That makes a new expansion feel bigger than a normal DLC drop. It also gives players a reason to reinstall the game before the next full Witcher era begins. For more gaming updates, keep an eye on our Gaming section.
The key question is scope. If Songs of the Past feels closer to Hearts of Stone or Blood and Wine, fans will treat it like an event. If it feels smaller, the nostalgia may carry only part of the weight.
Either way, a fresh Geralt chapter gives CD Projekt a safer bridge while the studio keeps building the next Witcher project.
