The second-largest U.S. health insurance company, Anthem has recently admitted that it got hacked last week. Millions of Anthem customers, Social Security numbers, birth dates, addresses, and more private information was exposed and accessed.

Their isn’t much information that has been released about the hack, but Anthem’s President and CEO Joseph R. Swedish called it a “very sophisticated external cyber attack.”

Anthem is still working to figure out how many more people have their information exposed. Even though they say that they don’t believe that the hackers were trying to use any credit card or medical information. The hackers did gain access to “personal information from our current and former members such as their names, birthdays, medical IDs/social security numbers, street addresses, email addresses and employment information, including income data.”

The affected Anthem database had records for 80 million people, and this will impact all of Anthem’s insurance plans and policies. From the FAQ Anthem has already set up about the hack:

The impacted (plan/brand) include Anthem Blue Cross, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia, Empire Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Amerigroup, Caremore, Unicare, Healthlink, and DeCare.

When we find out any more detailed information about this incident, we will keep all of you posted.
