The Czech Ministry of Transport has recognised Tesla FSD Supervised for public roads. On 21 September 2026, Tesla owners gained permission to use SAE Level 2 driver assistance in Czechia. Dutch RDW provisional approval still sets the conditions. Tesla Europe then said the software rollout will begin soon.
What Prague actually approved
Prague did not write a new Czech type approval. Instead, the ministry recognised the Dutch RDW’s provisional EU type approval from 10 April 2026. It did so under Article 39 of Regulation (EU) 2018/858. As a result, the system can run in Czechia only under the conditions already attached to that Dutch permit.
The ministry says Czechia now joins the Netherlands and five other European countries. Transport Minister Ivan Bednárik named the Netherlands, Belgium, and Denmark as examples his experts followed. He also said Czechia is ready to back a later EU-wide framework for the same software.
Tesla Europe confirmed the same news on X. The company wrote that FSD Supervised is now approved in Czechia, and that rollout will begin soon. It did not name a calendar day for the over-the-air switch.
The safety questions Prague wanted answered
The ministry spent months on the file. It joined EU talks, reviewed technical papers, and met Tesla Europe. Specifically, it focused on speed-limit compliance and road-sign reading. It also weighed mixed-traffic behaviour and how much control the driver keeps.
Early debate also covered speed offset and contextual speed. Those functions change how the car treats posted limits in real traffic. Officials likewise studied the driver-monitoring system. They asked whether it can demand attention and block use that would break the approval terms.
Later, member states already running the software shared operating data. The ministry also checked how Tesla tracks incidents and how it reviews the system after those events. Then it decided the extra evidence was enough.
“Our primary focus was on safety, which is the key consideration in this matter,” Bednárik said. He added that available data convinced Czech officials to follow countries that had already opened the feature.
Still supervised, not driverless
The ministry is blunt on the legal class. Tesla FSD Supervised is SAE Level 2. The driver must stay engaged, watch the system, and take over at once. Responsibility for the car stays with the driver.
That is the same supervised lane Tesla sells in other markets, including when Full Self-Driving launched in China. It is not the unsupervised robotaxi service Tesla now runs with Cybercab in Austin.
Czech owners still have to wait for Tesla to push the software. Until that update arrives, the ministry’s recognition is permission, not a live cabin feature. Still, Prague has now taken the national step Tesla needed.
