CW Sports on ESPN goes live August 4. ESPN Unlimited subscribers will get more than 800 annual hours of The CW’s live sports slate inside the ESPN App.

Moreover, the streams complement The CW’s free over-the-air and pay-TV distribution. They do not replace the broadcast feed. You still need an ESPN Unlimited plan, either standalone or through a TV provider that offers the tier.

What launches first

The companies open with WWE NXT on Tuesday, August 4, at 8:00 p.m. ET. That two-hour live show is the first marquee test of the new app path.

Next, motorsports fans can stream the final two regular-season NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series races. Iowa Speedway is set for Saturday, August 8, at 4:30 p.m. ET. Daytona International Speedway follows on Friday, August 28, at 7:00 p.m. ET.

In addition, The CW’s college football slate kicks off Saturday, August 29, at 6:30 p.m. ET with New Mexico State at Florida State. ESPN says the fall slate includes 140 hours across the ACC, Pac-12, and Mountain West.

Then the first week of CW Sports on ESPN closes with WWE NXT Heatwave on Sunday, August 30, at 3:00 p.m. ET from Texas. That is a Premium Live Event, not just a weekly episode.

What CW Sports brings long term

CW Sports launched in 2023 and now packages a broad mix beyond the launch week. The press release lists ACC, Pac-12, and Mountain West football and basketball, the full NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series, weekly WWE NXT, NXT Premium Live Events, PBR bull riding, AVP volleyball, PBA bowling, and the Arizona Bowl.

However, not every high-demand college game will land here. Licensing is still split across networks. The CW’s new Pac-12 and Mountain West deals do add more football and men’s and women’s basketball through the 2030-31 season.

ESPN also notes a sublicense path for ACC football and basketball on The CW. That keeps the broadcast network in the college mix while the ESPN App becomes the exclusive CW Sports streaming home for Unlimited subscribers.

Where to watch and what it costs

CW Sports live streams will appear in ESPN’s mobile and TV apps and on ESPN.com. Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN Unlimited bundle subscribers can also reach ESPN and CW Sports content on Disney+.

Still, Unlimited is the key gate. Engadget pegs the dedicated sports tier around $30 a month. ESPN’s press release does not restate that price here, so treat the dollar figure as secondary reporting until you check stream.espn.com.

Therefore, the deal mainly helps people already shopping ESPN’s direct-to-consumer stack. If you only want free CW Sports on broadcast, nothing forces you onto Unlimited. If you already pay for ESPN’s full app slate, the CW package adds wrestling, NASCAR, and more college games without another sports login.

Finally, sports streaming keeps stacking rights across platforms, from free race windows like Apple TV’s F1 Austrian Grand Prix offer to Disney’s deeper app linking work around Hulu and Disney+. CW Sports on ESPN is another rights package designed to make one expensive sports subscription feel denser at launch.
