AYANEO Pocket MICRO 2 is here, and the retro gaming handheld packs a serious upgrade over its predecessor. The new device keeps the Game Boy Micro-inspired horizontal form factor but adds a Snapdragon processor, larger battery, improved controls, and a headphone jack that honors its retro roots. It starts at $239 during early-bird pricing before rising to a $269 retail price.
The official announcement from AYANEO’s newsroom reveals a device designed to feel familiar yet thoroughly modern. The Pocket MICRO 2 measures just 162mm x 67.8mm x 18mm and weighs approximately 248g. A CNC all-metal middle frame gives it a more premium feel than the original, which AYANEO has been refining across its handheld lineup.
Three colorways including limited Stardust Purple
The Pocket MICRO 2 comes in Midnight Black, Frosty White, and a limited-edition Stardust Purple. AYANEO describes the purple variant as inspired by flowing stardust and dreamy light, giving the retro form factor a fresh personality.

Snapdragon power and the same beloved display
AYANEO kept the 3.5-inch LCD display from the original, retaining the 960 x 640 resolution and 3:2 aspect ratio that enables native 4x scaling for Game Boy Advance games. The pixel density hits 330 PPI with 100% sRGB coverage.
The real upgrade is inside. A customized Snapdragon 865-class processor delivers approximately 220% better performance than the original Pocket MICRO. An active cooling system keeps performance stable during extended sessions. The 3,950mAh battery represents a 52% capacity increase, meaning longer play sessions between charges.
Redesigned controls and the return of the headphone jack
AYANEO redesigned nearly every input surface. The D-pad and ABXY buttons are larger with premium conductive rubber for better tactile feedback. Recessed dual TMR joysticks arrive for the first time, offering greater precision while helping keep the device thin. The shoulder buttons get a separated staggered-height design to reduce accidental presses.
The full-function USB-C port supports PD fast charging and data transfer. A microSD card slot handles storage expansion. Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 cover connectivity. And yes, AYANEO brought back the 3.5mm headphone jack, completing the retro revival.
Pricing and availability
The base model with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage starts at $239 during early-bird pricing before rising to $269 retail. A premium variant with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage launches at $309 before settling at $339. AYANEO opened pre-orders in limited quantities, and the device already sold out on its online store.
The company said on Discord that it is discussing additional production runs with suppliers but cannot guarantee restocks. The Pocket MICRO 2 faces growing competition in the retro handheld space, where devices like the Retroid Pocket Nova offer similar appeal at the $229 price point.
AYANEO’s proprietary software ecosystem returns with AYASpace for retro game management, AYAHome for desktop customization, and AYASetting for performance modes and button mapping. The Pocket MICRO 2 runs Android, keeping it focused on emulation rather than PC gaming like some of AYANEO’s larger handhelds.
