News around town is, Twitter just doubled the character limits of tweets yesterday from the default 140 to 280. The new feature has made its way to select users to test the limit out. If you’re not one of the lucky users with access to the new feature and you just can’t wait to tweet hearts desire out, there’s a workaround discovered by a Twitter user Prof9 that will let you achieve the new 280 characters tweet limit as long as you are willing to tinker around with your browser.
Here’s a quick TamperMonkey script that force enables 280 character tweets in the Twitter web client.https://t.co/uUhW0CKekS

How to tweet 280 characters instead of 140:
- Download Tampermonkey for your browser of choice (Chrome webstore link)
- Visit this this Github repository, click the “raw” button, then tell tampermonkey to “install” the script (or copy and paste the code into a new script in Tampermonkey)
- Now visit twitter.com, make sure the script in running in Tampermonkey, then tweet away
This workaround is faster than other options that will have you tinkering with your browser. This method will work automatically on Twitter.com every time you use the web client to tweet. In case you didn’t know already, Tampermonkey is a widely used userscript manager, and the javascript is a harmless workaround that lets you bypasses the tweet button limit. If you don’t feel up to it to mess around with scripts on your PC, you’ll just have to wait for Twitter randomly select you for the test in the coming weeks as the social media giant is slowly testing and rolling out the new 280 character limit with a variety of accounts.
