Speck Products is one of the few brands that have mastered the art of styling protective cases. They cover many of the most popular brands out there. From Apple to Samsung, LG, HTC & more, Speck will definitely have you covered. The company has been around for a while now (14 years total) and they are constantly striving to craft the best cases, discover the freshest ideas and have the cleverest design teams. Today I introduce you to their Samsung Galaxy S4 Speck CandyShell Grip Case.
Build Quality
When you first take a look at any of the Speck cases they are very different from what the other third-party cases offer. And the Speck CandyShell Grip Case for the Galaxy S4 is no different. This case is similar to many other S4 cases when it comes to form, function and design. But that is where the buck stops, because Speck has added a glossy, “slick” feel and appearance to this case (dubbed the “CandyShell” effect). That along with the matte edging and “grip” on the rear makes this case one to take a second look at. The volume and power buttons are covered yet easily accessible and gives a sound, supportive feel. There are also cutouts for the camera and LED flash, speakers, IR blaster, mics and headphone jack. The micro USB charging port is accessible too, but we had to dig a little deeper while the Speck CandyShell Grip Case was on.
Protection
The Speck CandyShell Grip Case does a decent job at protecting the phone overall. The front lip is wide enough to add extra cushioning on the sides of the device while also keeping the front display from directly touching any flat surface while laying face-down. The grippy material on the back of the Speck CandyShell Grip Case aids with drops and falls. We have done a few light drop tests, and based on our results, the case does ok for those random falls from about a foot or so but don’t expect it to provide superior, military-grade protection.
Setup
The device’s one-piece style build keeps installation simple. To get the Samsung Galaxy S4 into the Speck CandyShell Grip Case just slide it in from either side, make sure that all of your corners and edges are covered well. A great thing about this case is that you don’t have to remove your back cover panel to fit it in. That makes the ease of swapping cases on the go a breeze and stress free.
