A U.S. FCC filing now lists a Sonos Ace Ultra over-ear headphone under ID SBVRM052. Lowpass spotted the public exhibits on August 10. Sonos has not confirmed the product. The photo with this post is the current Sonos Ace, not the Ultra.
What the filing actually says
The paperwork hides most of the technical pages. However, Lowpass says the unit also carries the name S52a, and that the Ace Ultra appears as an over-ear wireless headphone. The same read lists five finishes: Greige (light gray), Shadow Black, Agave, Blush, and Sand. That is a wider palette than the original Ace, which launched in 2024 in black and white.
Sonos did not immediately respond to Lowpass. Meanwhile, the company already has a dated public event. On the third-quarter call, CEO Tom Conrad said, “In September, we’ll be hosting a product launch event.” He later told an analyst it would be early in September. Sonos’s Q3 results post is the official financial wrap. The headphones are not named there.
What this is not
This is not a launch, a price, or a spec sheet. Instead, it is a certification packet plus a September date Conrad already put on the record. Specifically, the public Lowpass excerpt names no battery figure, no ANC claim, and no software feature list. Treat any voice-control or Wi-Fi rumor as unverified until Sonos or a complete unredacted exhibit says it.
The current Ace still matters as context. Sonos later shipped TrueCinema and a two-listener TV Audio Swap to those headphones through software. As a result, an Ultra model would have to beat a pair that already got a second year of work. Still, TMM’s recent headphone notes stay with confirmed products: Bose QuietComfort Headphones 2nd Gen and Pixel Buds Pro 2 in Olive.
Then the wait is short. If Conrad’s early-September window holds, the filing is a teaser, not a store listing. Besides the name and colors, the only locked official fact is the event itself.
