Xbox Trade-In: Best Buy Gift Cards Up to $375 for Series X

The U.S. offer pays by Best Buy Gift Card; model, condition, documentation and accessories affect the value.

As of November 1, 2026, Best Buy’s Xbox trade-in offer lists up to $375 in Best Buy Gift Card value for eligible Xbox Series X consoles. The retailer’s offer page ties the value to the console model, condition, accessories and other factors.

The offer page does not give a start or end date. However, Best Buy says availability varies by location and that some stores have additional limits.

What the credit actually is

The Xbox offer specifies payment by Best Buy Gift Card. Best Buy’s general trade-in FAQ also describes other payment routes, but those do not change the payment stated on this Xbox offer.

For an online trade-in for an e-Gift Card, Best Buy first receives and verifies the item. If it finalizes the trade-in, the company says it issues the electronic gift card within five business days. That period does not start when you first submit a quote or ship the console.

For this online route, Best Buy must receive the item within 14 days of the estimate. Otherwise, it may revise or withdraw that estimate.

If inspection changes the offer, reply within 72 hours to accept, decline or, where possible, resolve the issue. Without a reply, Best Buy may finalize the transaction.

Two routes exist. In store, the console goes through the Geek Squad counter. Online, Best Buy supplies a shipping label and you send the device. Either way, the company asks you to back up data, disable location features and perform a factory reset first.

$375 for Series X is a ceiling, not a quote

The $375 figure, however, is a ceiling rather than a quote. Best Buy sets each value from “product model, age, condition, required accessories, and current resale prices.” It warns that the value offered after inspection “is non-negotiable.” If the console does not match that first quote, Best Buy may adjust the value after inspection.

The offers page carries a standing caveat too. It states that “in-store pricing may vary” and that “prices and offers are subject to change.”

Best Buy weighs condition among those factors. At minimum, a device “must turn on and function as a user would normally expect.” Best Buy grades GOOD as fully functional, with no technical problems and “no scratches, dents, or dings.” FAIR, by contrast, allows “a few scratches due to normal use” plus moderate physical damage.

Rules that decide the value

Best Buy also names required accessories. It requires a power cable before it pays trade-in value. Missing controllers, in its words, “will significantly reduce trade-in value.” The console must also “contain all OEM (original equipment manufacturer) parts.” Non-OEM controllers, in other words, “are not acceptable.”

Handheld consoles carry an extra rule. Best Buy requires a docking station that ships bundled, or one named in the trade-in product description, before it pays trade-in value.

Several conditions stop a trade-in outright. Best Buy rejects devices that are “software locked (password, PIN, pattern lock, etc.).” It also rejects consoles “still attached to an active user account,” along with items “not manufactured for use within the United States.”

Best Buy lists physical damage among its exclusions too. Water damage, a swollen battery, or “engravings, modifications, etc.” all disqualify a device. In addition, the company excludes insect or rodent damage, and it grades items with “significant/severe physical damage” as NO VALUE.

Where the program does not run

Customers must be at least 18, or at least 19 in Alabama and Nebraska, to use the program. For an in-store Xbox trade-in, bring a valid U.S. state driver’s license or state-issued photo identification card. Best Buy also requires a statement of ownership and agreement to its terms; local laws may require additional personal information.

Best Buy itself narrows where the program works. Trade-in is available “both in person at our stores and on BestBuy.com (via shipping).” However, “Best Buy Outlet locations and our stores in Puerto Rico do not currently participate in the program.” The company also lists certain stores where local laws mean you must show a “Best Buy receipt.”

Other trade-in terms

For shoppers comparing retailers, Best Buy says it will price match “qualifying trade-in offers from select retailers.” That price match is in store only.

Check your console’s quote

The Xbox Series X amount is a maximum, not a condition-by-condition price list. Best Buy’s FAQ says the exact model must match the trade-in quote. Also, if a device does not appear in its trade-in estimator, Best Buy does not accept it for trade-in.
