The Google Fitbit Edge is Google’s next-generation fitness tracker, announced Oct. 12, 2026. It retails for $179.99 in the U.S. Pre-orders are open now on the Google Store and through retail partners, and the tracker goes on shelves Oct. 27. It has built-in GPS, a physical side button and a replaceable battery.

Google positions the Edge for people “looking for a wearable that sits between an advanced smartwatch like Pixel Watch and the quiet simplicity of a band like Fitbit Air.” Google launched the Pixel Watch 5 in August with a health focus of its own, and the Fitbit Air got a Pokémon Sleep edition later that month. The tracker works with most phones running Android 11 or higher or Apple iOS 16.4 or higher. It requires a Google Account, the Google Health app and an internet connection. Some features require a Google Health Premium subscription, sold separately.

Design and display

The tracker measures 11.5mm thin. Its case is made of durable recycled aluminum, which Google says is at least 2% of the product by weight. Google says the case is 45% lighter than the Apple Watch Series 12.

Google calls the Hybrid OLED display its largest and brightest tracker screen yet. It delivers 46% more viewing area than previous Fitbit trackers. Google says the display is easy to read even in direct sunlight. A redesigned physical side button gives tactile feedback for actions such as pulling up the workout pause screen.

Glanceable complications keep steps, weather and on-demand workouts front and center. Tiles bring sleep, cycle tracking and heart rate metrics to the wrist. The interface also includes Google Maps, media controls, and call and message notifications.

Fitness tracking

The exercise app starts more than 50 exercise modes from the wrist, with glanceable real-time guidance. Built-in precision GPS tracks outdoor activity without a phone nearby. Google says that GPS is up to 40% more accurate than previous Fitbit generations. Nano-molded aluminum housing and an upgraded GPS chipset enable the improvement.

An integrated altimeter measures elevation changes during hill sprints, outdoor runs or stair workouts. The Edge recognizes and categorizes up to 100 workouts automatically, from outdoor runs and rides to daily walks. It does so even if the wearer forgets to press start.

Health features

The tracker ships with Google’s Health Guardian features: blood pressure trends, insulin resistance trends and high/low heart rate alerts, available by region, country and device. Google says they are for general wellness and informational purposes only, not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any medical condition, or substitute for professional medical advice. Google’s footnote sets four limits on the blood pressure and insulin resistance trends: they are not a prescreener for diabetes or hypertension, give no real-time clinical readings, should not be used to adjust medications or treatment plans, and should not be used by individuals who are pregnant.

The on-wrist ECG app is available in select countries only and is not intended for people under 22 years old. A dedicated skin temperature sensor, not available in all countries, tracks nightly fluctuations. It works alongside sleep stage analysis and HRV metrics to produce a recovery score each morning. Continuous optical heart rate monitoring tracks rest and recovery trends around the clock.

Google’s Coach feature can translate shifts in health patterns and adapt a fitness plan, according to the announcement. It requires the separate Google Health Premium subscription. Buyers of the Fitbit Edge get three months of Google Health Premium included.

Battery, water resistance and repairability

Google rates battery life at up to seven days on a single charge, based on pre-production hardware with a battery-saver usage profile, and says actual battery life depends on features enabled, usage and environment and may be lower. Google’s Fitbit Edge setup guide says the Always-On Display cuts that to up to 2 days. Fast magnetic charging delivers a full day of battery in five minutes when the battery is low, using the in-box USB-C cable with a 30W adapter sold separately.

The Edge is water-resistant up to 50 meters. Google says it carries a 5 ATM water protection rating and an IP68 dust and water rating as each device leaves the factory. The company states the device is not waterproof or dust proof.

Google calls the Edge its first repairable fitness tracker, with an internal modular architecture. Google’s Fitbit Edge setup guide says the tracker is “designed with a user-replaceable battery” to extend the life of the device. The guide says repairability options may vary by region and availability, and that self service repair is not recommended unless the person is an adult with the technical expertise to safely repair electronic devices. Anyone who chooses self repair agrees to assume the risk. Neither the announcement nor the guide lists a replacement battery price.

Finishes, bands and a Curry edition

The Fitbit Edge comes in four finishes: Obsidian with a Matte Black case, Fog with a Polished Silver case, Olive with a Satin Pyrite case, and Canyon with a Warm Gold case. Each is paired with Google’s ultra-soft Active Band.

Interchangeable accessories sold separately include the Active Sport band, the Magnet band and the Metal Links band. The micro-adjustable Performance Loop band is coming soon, according to Google. The announcement does not list band prices.

Google is also launching a Stephen Curry Special Edition Fitbit Edge, created with the NBA player, for $219.99. It is water-repellent and moisture-wicking, in rye tones and game day orange. Google notes the water-repellent coating may diminish or be completely removed over time with normal wear.

The announcement lists U.S. pricing only. It does not specify pre-order availability or pricing in markets outside the U.S.
