Insta360 just launched the Insta360 X6, its new flagship 8K 360 camera. In the official announcement, Insta360 calls X6 the biggest leap in the history of the X series. The camera is on sale now from $699.99.
CEO JK Liu put the pitch in one line. “X6 is the camera we always wanted to build. It captures everything around you, in any light, and hands you a finished edit before you even reach for your phone.”
1-inch imaging and native 8K50
X6 uses custom dual Sony 1/1.1-inch square sensors. Insta360 says that setup delivers full 1-inch 360 imaging and 33% more sensor area than X5. So each frame takes in more light, and the company claims it holds detail in low light, backlight, and high contrast. The official product page also lists 14.5 stops of dynamic range.
Behind the sensors sits a triple AI chip. One 8-core 3.3GHz 4nm processor works with two dedicated imaging chips. Insta360 claims 500% more computing power than X5, a 106% faster clock, and 35% lower power draw. Native 360 video tops out at 8K50fps. X6 is also the first Insta360 360 camera with native in-camera Dolby Vision.
Then AdaptiveTone 2.0 meters each lens on its own and captures two exposures per frame. A new low-light mode adds two ambient light sensors to cut flicker. You also get 10-bit color and I-Log for later grading.
Three cameras in one pocket
Specifically, Insta360 built X6 to replace three cameras. Shoot full 360 and reframe later. Switch to InstaFrame 2.0 for tracked flat 4K. Or flip to a single-lens action cam at up to 5K60fps with a field of view up to 170 degrees.
InstaFrame 2.0 locks onto people, pets, and objects. Pair it with the Foldable Selfie Stick Remote Kit, and Insta360 says the camera behaves like a gimbal. Meanwhile the single-lens mode gives you a 132-degree view at 5K60 if you want a tighter action-cam look.
It edits while it charges
Instead of dumping a backlog on your phone, X6 can cut while it sits on the charger. Insta360’s AI Director analyzes the footage, builds a highlight edit, and pushes finished clips to the Insta360 app. Auto Edit 2.0 can also turn one clip or many into a full edit in one tap, including framing, cuts, music, and transitions.
That editor runs on Insta360 PanoMind, an in-house 360 model trained on more than 10,000 hours of footage. Moments Pro adds a cloud tool that builds a video from a subject, mood, style, and timeframe. However, treat those as Insta360’s claims. We have not used the camera.
Battery, waterproofing, and price
The new 2600mAh Xtreme Battery records 140 minutes of 8K30fps 360 video. Insta360 says that is 51% longer than X5. Fast charging goes from empty to 80% in 24 minutes, and the pack is rated down to -4 F. The 2.32-inch OLED hits 1200 nits and stays always-on.
Besides the battery and screen, X6 is waterproof to 20 meters on its own. The Invisible Dive Case Pro takes that to 60 meters. Replaceable Lenses 2.0 are five times more scratch-resistant than the last generation, and Insta360 says replacements cost 60% less. Built-in storage gives you 47GB usable from a 64GB pack, so you can shoot without an SD card.
Audio gets windproof 360 mics plus a Hidden Engine Mic aimed at motorcycle riders. You can also pair two Insta360 Mic Air or Mic Pro transmitters at once. FlowState stabilization and 360 Horizon Lock stay on board, and Wi-Fi 6 moves files at 100MB/s wirelessly.
This launch sits next to Insta360’s other 2026 camera work. We already covered the Insta360 Luna Ultra, which takes a Leica gimbal path instead of a 360 body. Also, HOVERAir’s VERSA flying pocket gimbal is chasing a different pocket-camera job.
X6 is available now at the Insta360 store, Amazon, and select retailers. The Standard Bundle starts at $699.99 and includes the camera, Xtreme Battery, USB-C cable, and pouch. Insta360 also lists FlexiCare, a 90-day launch replacement window, and a trade-in path for older cameras.
