Netflix has announced the release date for its upcoming soccer simulation game. The streaming giant will launch FIFA World Cup: Launch Edition on June 11. The game is free for all Netflix subscribers. It will arrive on the platform alongside the kickoff of the actual tournament. This game represents a new direction for the league’s video game adaptations.
The gameplay uses a unique control scheme. Instead of standard gamepads, players will use their smartphones as controllers. The game connects to a TV screen. From there, users scan a QR code with their mobile devices to play. According to Netflix, this system allows up to four people to play together. The controls are streamlined, letting players swipe to pass, shoot, and tackle in seconds.

Licensed Teams and Real Stadiums
The Launch Edition includes all 48 teams participating in the 2026 World Cup. It features 1,248 licensed players. In addition, players can compete in 16 real-world stadiums. Netflix stated that the title represents its “kickoff” version. While the simulation will evolve over time, it offers immediate gameplay for the summer event. A limited test of the mobile-controlled game starts today in Brazil.
As companies prepare for the upcoming football tournament, this announcement follows other event-focused services. For instance, Uber introduced fixed-price shuttles to help fans navigate the stadium locations. Meanwhile, video game publishers are also releasing their own updates to capture the event’s excitement.
EA Sports FC 26 Alternative
Electronic Arts is releasing its own update to capitalize on the tournament. Since EA ended its licensing agreement with FIFA, it is launching “The World’s Game” update. This free update goes live today for EA Sports FC 26 and EA Sports FC Mobile. It features 53 licensed international teams. This update is completely separate from Netflix’s FIFA-branded mobile simulator. Additionally, Sports Interactive recently added a World Cup patch to Football Manager 26.
