When Samsung announced Bixby during the Samsung Unpacked Event, they reported that the new voice assistant would support nearly 5 or 6 different languages out of the box by the official retail date. So far it doesn’t look like that’s going to be the case. Samsung’s own website states that Bixby currently only has support for English and South Korean languages. We do expect by quarter 4 of this year Samsung’s voice assistant should have expanded its support for more common languages to properly benefit other markets outside of Korea, UK, Canada, and the USA. Even Samsung Germany is stating that Bixby isn’t fully available in Germany yet, and on their website, they clearly state that Q4 is the expected date for Bixby to take commands in German and respond in German.
With the new Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ smartphones hitting retail shelves and shipping on April 21st, who knows which markets that Samsung will prioritize their devices to those that will support the currently available languages in their country (outside of South Korea, UK, Canada, and the USA). Samsung also has plans to implement Bixby in other consumer electronics devices like Samsung branded washing machines and smart TVs.
