Chromebooks Can Now Load A New OS Through A USB Drive

Before now, running a different OS safely on a Chromebook without breaking anything required extreme measures or just running it in a window. The chromium team added a new feature that enables booting from USB so you can install an OS image from a USB drive on your Chromebook.

See the full list of features added by the chromium team below

– Remove rootfs verification so you can modify OS files
– Enable SSH access to the device using the standard test keys so you can use tools such as cros flash
– Set both the dev and the system root login password to a custom value so you can manually SSH into the device

The team didn’t fail to state that the new features are for “enthusiastic developers” that are willing to tinker with their shiny Chromebooks. See the source link below for more info.
